FOOTBALL: Ardley humbled at home by new boys
10:00am Thursday 2nd September 2010
Ardley United’s good run in the UHLSport Hellenic League came to an abrupt end in a 2-0 home defeat by Premier Division newcomers Thame United on Bank Holiday Monday.
Having won their previous two games 5-0, hopes were high that Ardley would keep up their form.
However, it never happened as a lacklustre Ardley went down to defeat.
On 60 minutes Alex Stewart headed in a free-kick for Thame’s opener.
Then Dean Smith’s 25-yard drive was saved by Thame keeper Milan Barisic.
Five minutes later, Stewart scored his second.
Ardley tried to get back in the game, but Thame held on.
On Saturday, Ardley had thrashed Shrivenham 5-0.
Murray Nicholls fired Ardley ahead from Troy Bryan’s cross.
Jordan Ayris doubled their lead from Lewis Travers’s cross.
Travers and Bryan interchanged passes for Ayris to score his second.
Ardley made it 4-0 when Danny Bone turned in an Ayris pass, before Nicholls sealed it late on with a superb free-kick for his second.
On Saturday, Ardley travel to Westbury United in the FA Vase first-qualifying round.
