FOOTBALL: Slick Ardley cruise in for derby spoils

Ardley United celebrated their first victory against Kidlington in almost two years with a 2-0 FTL Futbol Hellenic League Premier Division success on Saturday.

It was a game which saw little in terms of goalmouth action, but was won in the first half.

Following misses by Stuart Bridges and Harry Brock, centre half Danny Mason’s flicked header from a long Adam Beckett throw put Ardley in front on 25 minutes.

The lead was doubled six minutes before the break after the Kidlington defence failed to attack an Adam Richmond free-kick, allowing Troy Bryan to head in No 2.

The second half was a poor spectacle, with neither goalkeeper being tested.

However, any slim hope Kidlington had of getting back into the game disappeared when Jack Johnson was sent off for a second bookable offence.

On Saturday, Ardley travel to Witney United.

Rich Young salvaged a point for Bicester Town as they drew 1-1 against Malmes-bury Victoria.

Chris Oke had given the visitors a 59th-minute lead, before Young struck on 74 minutes to seal a point for Chris Hurley’s men.

On Tuesday, Town crashed to a 6-2 defeat away to Fairford Town.

John Magnani (3), David Bailey, Matt Boucher and Jacques Tertois did the damage for Fairford.

This weekend Town, who are a point away from second bottom Hook Norton face a tough trip to third-placed Wantage Town.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Potts slammed a four-timer, including a penalty, as Launton Sports crashed 7-0 at Winter-bourne.

Neil Ward, Nick Waters and Sam Vile completed the rout.

On Saturday, basement bo-ys Launton, who have yet to win this season entertain second from bottom Cirencester United.
